Not-so-good friday pizza, among other things

You'd think it would taste yummy, hey?  It actually wasn't too bad -- Daz thought it was fine, but I thought it lacked the oomph I wanted it to have.  Yesterday, being Good Friday, it was frutti di mare all day.  Tuna melts for lunch and garlic and shrimp pizza for dinner.

I've made the shrimp pizza before, at a pizza night dinner with friends and it turned out well.  I don't know what it was this time, but it was probably a combination of many things.  It started going wrong from the start --I knew when I was kneading the pizza dough that something was wrong.  Whether it was the water being too hot for the yeast, or something was iffy with the flour, or I was using a different sort of olive oil, I don't know.  But something was definitely up with the dough.

All the while I was precooking the shrimp, I kept thinking how nice it would be with a bowl of fresh pasta instead.  Next, I forgot the exact proportions for the ricotta. And then I realised I only had a small square of not-so-good parmesan so I thought I'd use the grana padano.  And if that wasn't enough, the mozarella we had got moldy.  Crap.  Not to worry, I had some bocconcino in the fridge and if I shred it it would do the job.

Ay, soo wrong.  I couldn't tell which of these things was the biggest culprit but it all resulted into one blah pizza and I could only eat two slices.

In other news, the tiels are back :)  Since I couldn't be with them while they got checked, I sent a "love letter" to their avian vet, describing what they're like and what their typical day is at home.  I also sent in a barrage of questions/concerns I have with different things about their behavior, health, etc.

Their vet sent the letter back with his replies, as well as a detailed report on the tests he administered on them and their state of health.  I felt like a proud mama, reading that they're both in the pink of health --good weight for their size, good rbc and wbc, no parasites, no vitamin deficiencies, woohoo :)

They're both fine now, running around the house wreaking mayhem as usual except that they both get a little upset when we have to leave them (separation anxiety) and they both hate going into the cage when it's bedtime.  It might take a few days until they get over the whole experience.  And we hope they won't need to go back to the vet till their next yearly avian check. :)
