I got home from work yesterday afternoon and the first thing MIL said to me was "Guess what!" and I said, "What?" and she said "There's a baby!"
So I ran to the bedroom (where the nesting box was) and sure enough, there was an empty eggshell right at the front of the box and I could hear a chirp chirp chirp :)But the mum and dad were very very stressed out and kept hissing at me (I couldn't believe it! Our sweet and gentle Dash was hissing LOL) so I very hurriedly left them alone to call Daz and tell him the good news :)
A little later I came back and I finally saw it --a little naked baby cockatiel trying to run around with his cute perfect little legs and raising his cute perfect little wings!! :) Right beside him was another egg that had a hole at the top. I left them alone again and when I came back a little later --there were TWO!!
I had to turn the heater on because the parents weren't sitting on them and I was scared they would die of cold but when I woke up earlier and shone a little light, I saw the mum sitting on them, feeding them :) Yay! They might survive yet!
This is our cockatiel's second clutch, but first hatch so we have been told over and over that the babies will probably not survive because handreared cockatiels do not make the best first-time parents, but I hope they do!
Will try and take pictures when the parents relax a little bit and let me do it :)
