Had a loooong liesurely brunch at Heaven N Eggs today with friends from high school and between the crab and bacon soup to the sugar (syrup, actually) high, I realised it was Valentine's in two days. Gah. The funny thing was, the people at the table who were in relationships all had LDRs: me, obviously :) S, whose boyfriend is tinkling with a software project in Japan and C, whose boyfriend is in the US Navy.
How am I spending V-day this year?
When I was in grade school, I used to write/make valentine hearts and cards for my parents and friends with cheesy lines like "You're my valentine" and thought nothing of it.
High school and I was doing the same thing, though secretly wishing some crush of the moment would send me flowers or write me a card. All I ever did get in high school was a hastily scribbled letter from someone who reportedly had a crush on me, hand-delivered through one of the"cool" girls in class. And of course, valentine cards from my friends :D
College would find me dressed in black (sick of the red sea on the day, of course people WILL wear red) on one occassion, delivering flowers to unsuspecting students for an org fundraiser on another, finding myself the embarassing receiving end during Comm III class (eep!) on still another and buying some flowers for the first time for a boy I liked! and had it sent to his tambayan LOL at another... eww... my college room mate used to leave little fragrant pockets of potpourri and poems from obscure poets on my desk (we were both English majors, so it was more of a game, really... spot the most obscure lol) and I would leave my own selections of obscure poetry with a handful of Hershey's kisses in heart formation, haha!
And then there would be the V-Days after college --a motley mix of love or hate v-day, depending on my mood...
But my favorite V-day would still be that day I woke up to go to the bathroom and got out to find the room bathed in candlelight (blinds down, room in darkness), Daz sheepishly blowing out a match and breakfast all ready. :) LOL yes, cheese at its best :) Who woulda thought? :D
So how will I spend V-day this year? A glass of wine, a platter of cheese and the glow of my pc screen to keep me company :)
