Bulong Sa Hidlaw*

posted 13.10.2006 Friday

We've been making dinner meals an event the past three days, starting with some good old nostalgia food -- yang chow fried rice and lemon chicken one night (we tried to make it the way it's served at Mr Choi's or that long departed hole in the wall resto at the old Pasong Tamo Walmart), chicken parmegiana (like Italianni's!!) the second night, but yesterday we bought an outdoor grill because Darren wanted some of this

inasal

Before I left Bacolod, my mom's boy friday - Sandy, who helps her around the garden every sunday- taught me the secret to making chicken inasal.  His family has an inasal spot at inasal country near the Bacolod cathedral.

I haven't had any real bouts with homesickness at all since I was 15 (in UP and living on my own for the first time), but as I was making the marinade last night (I had to keep tasting it because the recipe has no definite measurements, and I was substituting limes for kalamansi) the wave of homesickness hit me like a 4x4 plank to the head. WAAAAA!

BTW, it's burnt on purpose hehe we luurve our carcinogens :D

*Bulong sa Hidlaw - difficult to translate, really. I came up with "Balm for homesickness", my friend S suggests "homesickness remedy".  It's the closest translation we can come up with, though suggestions are welcome!
